As a Property & Casualty Middle Market Underwriter at The Hartford, your primary role will be to underwrite Middle Market new business, servicing the needs of our agency partners on an account-by-account basis, in a fast-paced and competitive environment. Our customer focused model on this team allows Hartford to quickly identify the best Business Lines resources and underwriting team to deliver meaningful coverage solutions to our agents in a time frame that aligns with low-end business requirements. This role will directly support partnerships between Small Business and Middle and Large Business countrywide for General Industries and require an underwriting acumen that supports review of low and high complexity accounts. Working in a fast-paced and high energy environment, this team will deliver $15M in new business writing. Underwriting: + Underwrite countrywide new business submissions that require prompt attention and a speed to market approach + Seamlessly applies all applicable Underwriting guidelines when making decisions + Have good knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and governance + Delivers exceptional customer service experience within defined service level agreements + Collaborates with industry teams on submissions outside of individual authority level Agency Management: + Responsible for and influences purchasing decisions and risk-reward outcomes using HIG pricing and underwriting tools as guidance + Acts as a trusted advisor to agencies + Partners with field teams to drive better results and build deeper Hartford agency relationships Sales: + Collaboration with Regional office and MMUC teams to leverage territory specific trends and nuances + Build knowledge of Hartford service and risk management options to educate agents and increase hit rates and flow Service: + Consulting with the agents to answer questions regarding coverage, explaining processes, directing the agents to appropriate resources within the Hartford based on their unique needs + Is responsive to the needs of internal and external customers, delivering excellent service in a timely fashion. Qualifications: + 5 + years of P&C commercial multi-line carrier underwriting experience preferred + Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with all internal and external business partners + Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills + An ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions. + High energy self-starter, who is resilient and has an entrepreneurial spirit + Demonstration of solid time, organizational, and desk management skills + Goal-oriented and delivers outcomes + Ability to challenge the status quo and compete to win + Superior technical knowledge and sound decision-making and analytical skills This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations will have the expectation of working in an office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise. Compensation The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is: $66,800 - $142,800 The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
